Dear Madcaps,
I have a paragraph block made up of 4 pragraphs and grouping in a DIV. I have now decided that the DIV is of no value and I want to remove it, leaving the 4 pragraphs unrelated. It must be simple but how do I do it?
thank you................... liz

Re: Removing a DIV
The easiest way to do it would be to right click on the topic and open with internal text editor. Then you can just highlight and delete the <div> and </div> tags.
Hope that helps,
Andrea

Andrea,
Thank you, it's so easy when you know how!

Useless aside:
There is a funny pun here that appeals to my sense of humour but I don't know if it works in the US... I want to say "I feel such a div", but this isn't the HTML DIV it a somewhat perjorative term used in England to describe someone who is being a bit stupid!

That is half the battle with this program, I'm learning. Once you figure something out, it's easy. The problem is the learning curve of the program is difficult.

Re: Removing a DIV
Or if you're not keen on opening in a text editor, you can right-click on the <div> in the left margin of the XML editor and select Unbind (or sometimes right-click > Edit > Unbind). That'll remove the <div> without removing the <p> tags inside it.
Re: Removing a DIV
This is much easier than opening the editor and deleting the <div>s:
1. Click (right or left click) on the div bar on the left-hand side of the topic,
2. Select "Edit",
3. Select "Unbind"
I paste in a lot of old DocBook generated HTML stuff, so I frequently end up with multi-nested divs, paragraphs, etc. So I use the "Edit-->Unbind" function A LOT.
You would use the same process to remove other style elements (H2, etc.)... except for lists (<ul>, etc.), which have an "Unbind List" option (instead of Edit-->Unbind). List items (<li>) have a "Make Simple Item(s)" option. But all of them basically do the same thing as Unbind.

Re: Removing a DIV
Just remember that the div may contain style elements.

Re: Removing a DIV
I would vote for the unbind method as well, for two reasons: 1) it's quicker, and 2) it guarantees that you get the right Div tags (if you have more than one Div in the topic, it isn't always easy to determine which closing tag goes with which opening tag).
Until next time....
