No images in Word output
Hi,
how do I generate a Word output with embeded Images?
As soon as I move the Word doc to another folder, I tend to loose all the included Images.
Cheers.

Re: No images in Word output
You need to embed the images if you are going to move the file - there is a KB article at:

Re: No images in Word output
On the issue of images and word documents....I built the Word target and when it opens, there are no images present. There is a resources folder that holds all the images that showed up with the build in the same folder.
Since I have Word 2007, I followed the link listed in this topic, and still there are no images within the word document. What would I be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Andrea

In this case you should have a look at this thread where you can find a solution for Word 2007.

Ok, here's the issue I am having with regard to Word 2007 and pictures. Not all my pictures are showing up after I break links. They do not even show up in the list before I break links.
I have my pictures and captions enclosed in div tags. Would that affect why they are not showing up? (no captions are showing up either)
Thanks,
Andrea

Re: No images in Word output
Possibly. Word doesn't know from Divs, so it may be that they're getting missed.

Re: No images in Word output
Is there a workaround that would allow me to keep the divs? I am using div tags to surround the screenshot and caption, then another div around that to center everything. (suggestions from past forum topics) so I do not want to looks that.
Any ideas?

Re: No images in Word output
It might be fine if that's all you're doing with your DIVs. It's when you try to float a DIV that you get into problems. So if your DIV is on its own line (not floating) and it's just a container for the screenshot and caption, then I think it'll convert fine to Word, but you'll have to test it to be sure. Are the DIVs whose images aren't showing up as an option to embed floating to the left or right?

Re: No images in Word output
I do not use the float feature. I do have generic tags that are either .leftAlign or .rightAlign.
So far none of the images are coming over at all and I'm just figuring that is because they are in divs.

Re: No images in Word output
In a way I'm not surprised that it didn't work. Word 2003 doesn't update fields and xrefs in text boxes if you do a Ctrl + A to select the entire document and then try to update the field. That's always annoyed me. It's possible this problem is related to that.
If you click on the image in the div in the Word output then do the break link function for just that image, does it work?

Re: No images in Word output
Images in DIVs do appear in Word output - I think the div is ignored rather than omitted.
I think the problem lies in the fact that the images are not showing up even before you break the links. As I mentioned in a previous post (http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... 92&p=30137), there is a timing issue in Word and large documents - you have to visit each page to ensure the picture is displayed before the link can be broken.
How big is the document? Can you easily view each page to check that the images exist? When you generate the document, you could check in the relevant output folder that the images have been generated to the output Resources sub-folder (at generation, click "Open Output Folder"). If not, then there is an earlier problem in the generation and I'd check the condition tags, etc. But it is more likely the timing issue.
If you are happy with using macros the one I supplied works on Office 2007 as well as earlier versions.
But I think there is also a need to request that Flare provide an option to embed images during a build - and the link ...

Re: No images in Word output
I think I ran into this issue and someone suggested updating the links before breaking them. Or something like that. I don't have a Word output that I can test this with, but I think there was an option when you selected the entire document, went to Edit > Links, and then select all of the images in the list (?) and then select update images or something like that. Then do the break links. That was in Word 2003, though.wclass wrote:I think the problem lies in the fact that the images are not showing up even before you break the links. But, yes, I really don't see a reason why the images aren't being embedded by default.

Yes - this should also work in Office 2007 - Office Button > Prepare > Edit Links, then select all the pictures, click Save Pictures checkbox, then Update, and then break the links.LTinker68 wrote:I think I ran into this issue and someone suggested updating the links before breaking them. Re: No images in Word output
The images I have within the div tags are not coming through in the build at all, as in the images are not found in the resources folder. Basically, I can't break links to picture that are not showing up. They show up in htmlhelp just fine.
When I am in print layout mode in Flare and preview, the pictures do not show up there either, although they are in the code.

Re: No images in Word output
Hm. Just for grins, try changing your word target to save to .doc instead of .docx (i.e. to Word 2003 format). See if the images come through then. It could be there's a bug in Flare's Word 2007 output.
Until next time....

Re: No images in Word output
I had already tried saving the word target as .doc, and it comes with the same result.

Re: No images in Word output
I finally figured out that the CSS display was set to hidden for print media. Once I changed this to block, all the divs showed up with the pictures and captions.
