Sudden installer issues with Flare 4.2

Post by Diana_BB »

Every time I launch Flare 4.2, I now get a package installer error with a number 2908--I have to click OK twice. A Windows installer acts like it's going to run, but does nothing, goes away, and then Flare opens.

This showed up last week. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, but that didn't work.

Anyone else having this problem? I haven't opened a bug report just yet. Is it possible that network changes at the office could have corrupted something?

Thanks,
Diana

I don't know what caused your problem, but my Flare 4.2 is still OK.

You may want to try to reinstall DotNet. That often does wonders. YMMV.

I'm on Vista, so is that necessary? (The .NET install sections says this isn't.)

You know--I did notice that the newly released Mimic required .NET 3.5, instead of 3.0. I do believe that I started having this problem after I upgraded Mimic and Capture. I didn't install the .NET for Mimic because of Vista.

Could this be related?

Any ideas?

DotNet 3.5SP1 is the latest version available, which should be able to get installed on Vista, but since it is Vista, all bets are off anyway. I'd try installing 3.5SP1 if Vista lets you.
Poking in the dark here, you could also try logging in as a different user, maybe the user profile got busted.

The Windows installer code is 2908 Could not register component [2], according to Microsoft. Evidently installer errors 2000 and above need to be fixed through the software vender.

I did install .NET 3.5.

I'm going to try uninstalling again. Flare seems to be working just fine after getting through all the error windows, so I'll tackle this after my deadline this week. I may have to uninstall Mimic and Capture to see if a certain sequence of installation may have caused this.

UPDATE:
I rebooted again and now it works just fine. :D So glad I don't have to uninstall anything!
