Favorite Topics and Searches: Change Font and Checkbox Look

Post by Lucia »

I can go to Skin > Styles > Control and change the way the Favorite Topics and Searches are displayed, including:
  • TopicFavoritesDeleteButton
    TopicFavoritesLabel
    SearchFavoritesDeleteButton
    SearchFavoritesLabel
But I would also like to change the way the Searches and Topics are displayed, both the font and the way the checkbox looks (orange when hovering over it).

Any clue?

I'm pretty sure you can't change the text formatting in the skin (I've spent time trying to do this myself).
The styles are inherited from the CSS in Favorites.htm (in the output), which sets the body style as Arial 12px.

You also can't format the check-box via the skin.

You can do some after-build modifications until MadCap adds more styling options in the skin (make sure you submit a feature request for that, too). But the modifications will need to be made to an HTML and/or Javascript file, depending on what you want to change. I have an after-build mod which just requires me to copy my version of an icon over the version generated by the help output, but I have a couple of file modifications for other stuff.

If you want to try that, then I'd delete the output folder, rebuild so that you get a clean and up-to-date output, modify the relevant files, and test them by running the default.htm file in the output folder (don't rebuild). Once you get the appearance you want, copy the modified files outside of the project. Then every time you build, copy the modified files over the files generated from Flare. It's a PITA, but it can be done, at least if you know enough styling and coding to figure out what to change.
