Is there any way to rotate text 90 degrees (i.e., so that lines are vertical) in a table cell?
I am aware that I could use a bitmap picture of the rotated text, but I would prefer to do it with "real" (editable) text instead.

All I could find are IE-only hacks. Plain XHTML appears not to be able to do that. To be as compatible as possible use an image.....or flip the monitor on its side.

Flare doesn't have the ability to rotate text 90 degrees and most browsers don't support it either.

You can try this style for those cells you would like rotated:
I have not fully tested this in FireFox, Opera, or Chrome. If anyone does, please post your findings.
Code: Select all
td.VertText
{
writing-mode: tb-rl;
filter: flipv fliph;
vertical-align: middle;
}

Works in IE6&7 for me, but not Firefox (v3).

Yea, there are tons of nifty IE-only hacks, but I wouldn't even propose any of them since they are IE-only. That would cover only 2/3rd of the potential browsers in use and in some places even way less.
One way would be to not turn everything, but write

I was actually thinking of Microsoft Word output, since this is easily done in Word.Richard Ferrell wrote:Flare doesn't have the ability to rotate text 90 degrees and most browsers don't support it either.

I see your point, but you need to keep in mind that Word isn't the output Flare is primarily made for. But since it does output Word docs one could reasonably expect such features to be supported. Feel free to ask for it here: https://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx
