i'm about to lose my mind here... it's just one thing after another.. and everything seems so convoluted...
i've been wondering about this for awhile, but have usually found a way around it.. but now it's getting ridiculous...
somehow.. some times when i add text, flare just seems to randomly assign a style... for instance, i created a snippet... and i typed a few words.. and went to format it... and Flare had already assigned it as a b. (bullet?).. HOWEVER.. i made no such selection.. and i want to apply a regular p tag/class to it.. but i don't get any "p" options when i display styles... so how the heck do i change the tag from a "b" to a "p" so i can assign an existing class or create a new one...
the way I've done this before is just gone in and deleted the class from one tag and pasted it in another in the Style.css - in the stylesheet editor.
i'm about to quit my job over this because i'm just NOT getting any of this... i'm thinking of Flare the same way I do Word.. HOPELESS for me.
changing from one tag to another.. HOW?

The b tag is for bold text, which is an inline format (what in Frame you would call character formatting). As far as how it got there, it's possible that you hit Ctrl+b on the keyboard accidentally (that's the short cut for bolding text).
Once your cursor is in an inline tag, the styles shown will switch to character tags rather than paragraph tags, which is why you can't see the p tags etc. right now.
What I would do to remove it is right click on the b tag and choose Unbind from the context menu. This will remove the b tags and you'll be back to normal.

Until next time....

I find it a lot easier to see what I'm doing if I have the Show Blocks and Show Spans feature on the the topic editor. Are you using them? With a new snippet open, you can see from the blocks on the left that there is an html, body, and p tag already present. If you typed or pasted text in that paragraph and there was an inline tag accidentally assigned to part of it, you would see it in the spans above.

If you're still finding your way around, the support demos might be useful.
http://www.madcapsoftware.com/demos/support.aspx
There's one about the 'Flare User Interface', which covers the editor window, styles, etc.

In addition to right-clicking on the bullet or paragraph bar on the left and selecting, "unbind", I often right click on a style bar and choose from the "Style Class..." drop-down menu.
