weird selection behavior

I'm trying to select a couple of paragraphs of text.. but instead of being a controlled selection, suddenly half the topic is selected...

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS SOFTWARE DOING? my frustration level is at a maximum right now.. I CAN'T SEEM TO DO ANYTHING in it without hassle.

The XML Editor is a bit tricky when you're first learning it. Because you don't see the tags that enclose the text, you can't always tell where the cursor is when you're selecting text. You may think you're at the end of the text block, but you're really between the last period and the closing end tag. The appearance of the cursor does change, depending on where it is in relation to the tags. You might want to take a look at this blog --> http://techwritetips.wordpress.com/2006 ... ml-editor/ That blog was written around Flare 2, I think, but I think the cursor appearances are still the same in Flare v4.

You can always turn on the tag markers (click the <t> icon in the XML Editor toolbar) before you select the text.

Using the keyboard to select text seems to be less prone to unexpected jumps or other weirdness.

Place your cursor, then hold down Shift and use the arrow keys to move the cursor.
