so i followed the online help about how to have breadcrumbs in my help... it instructed me to create a master page with breadcrumb proxy. when I went to add the master page, the main one available already had the breadcrumb proxy in place... so i kept it, and deleted the default setting of a mini-toc at the bottom (we don't want that).... I had breadcrumbs before (and no mini-TOC, but i wanted to be able to change the look of the breadcrumbs, etc.).. but now that i have added a new master page, I apparently can't get it to take effect.. and now i have that blasted mini-TOC again.

So...

1) how do i apply this master page? when i try using the instructions in the Flare online help, and i got to the Project Properties dialog, my new Master Page does not appear as an option for applying master pages (HOWEVER, it DOES appear in the Content>Resources>master pages. So what do i still need to do?

2) if my master page doesn't have a mini-toc as part of it's layout, why then does my output show one.. and how do i get rid of it?

You need to specify the masterpage you're using for the project in the target editor. If you have two masterpages, then you select the one you want. If there's only one masterpage in the project then you can leave it at default. (And that's assuming that you didn't make a call to the masterpage from the <html> tag in the stylesheet.)

After making that change in the target, delete the output folder before rebuilding.

It's definitely in the help in a few places, try Features > Targets > More About Targets > Associating Master Pages with Targets.

I think MadCap's terminology can be confusing though, you have "master pages" and "master page layouts" (the setting in project properties).

- Make a master page you will see most likely 3 grey boxes:

Breadcrumbs proxy
Body Proxy
Mini-Toc Proxy

Remove the proxy min-toc if you dont want it, then go to Targets open the target you want to have this masterpage and then click on Advanced tab and seelct the Masterpage you saved and press build.
