Hello Lingo users,
I consider migrating from my "old school" CAT environment (Word/Wordfast) to Lingo. However, I have a few questions, and I would appreciate if a kind soul could help me.
1. Project Statistics
Could those of you that have used other CAT environments say if the statistics/report generated by Lingo are comparable to those by other tools (Trados, Wordfast)?
(I know that each software produces slightly different results here, but when there is a huge project with an existing TM, it would be nice if both the translator and the client could verify each other's numbers with regards to the amount of work.)
2. Glossary
The bilingual glossaries in Wordfast are a very helpful tool. These are simply text files with the source term (e.g. English), a tab and the target term (e.g. German). When you encounter a segment that is not present in the translation memory, you can have Wordfast replace all words in the target segments by their translations from the glossary.
So when the source sentence "The cat is black" is not found in the TMX, the (EN>DE) glossary will at least insert term-by-term translations: "Der Katze ist schwarz", which already saves a lot of typing. Can something similar be achieved with Lingo? How? I browsed the online support, but couldn't find something that looks like this feature.
(I know I could probably build a pseudo-TM which holds terms, not sentences. But this wouldn't be too helpful if I had to stitch together target sentences by clicking on twenty translation suggestions ...)
3: Overriding segmentation?
In Wordfast, once in a while, segmentation will go wrong - a segment as detected by the algorithm will be too long or too short (A sentence about "Yahoo! Inc." would be a good example; this is typically cut off after the exclamation mark).
In this case, the user can manually split the current segment or merge it with the following, which is more intuitive than coming up with a new segmentation rule (especially if you really just need to sail around one oddity like Yahoo!).
Again: Is this possible with Lingo?
Thank you for your responses.

I know from experience they are, and I probably will ask them.Madcap Guru wrote:You may want to send that question over to Sales@madcapsoftare.com they are good at answer presales questions.
I just think these are just questions that existing version 2.0 users might be able to answer quickly, maybe suggesting workarounds or alternative approaches where an out-of-the-box feature does not exist.
