Table margins don't work (Flare 4.2)

Hi folks

Help! I can't get the Table Margins to work.

I created a Table Style .css, and set Table Margin/Left to "50mm". No indent in the prieview view. No indent in the output.

I also followed the instructions in the knowledge base (http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/default_Le ... adCap-Skin)

Still no indent.

Has anybody else got this feature working?

That is one of the more irritating things about Flare: when you use a table style, it inserts inline formatting into the <table> tag in the topic, which includes margin values. Since they are in the topic, they're closer to the content than your stylesheet is, which means that by CSS rules they take precedence.

The solution is to open the topic in a text editor and remove the margin code from the table tag. That will allow the settings in your CSS to be used.

If you think this is a bad way for Flare to behave, please send Madcap a bug report. If enough of us complain maybe they'll fix it.

Frankly, I think it's pathetic that this doesn't work out of the box. Better table handling was one of the reasons I argued for forking out for the upgrade.

No kidding. I've been bugging them for years not to do anything with inline formatting.

I think if you set the table position to left then there won't be any margin inline formatting put on the table -- it's when you select center (and probably right) that margin values are being inserted inline.

I have been having the same problem and couldn't figure out what to do. This worked perfectly. Thanks.

The only problem is that I have a situation where my tables lose their formatting when I add content to them, and I have to reapply styles. It seems likely that this is going to undo the text editor fix every time, right? Preliminary experimentation indicates that this will be the case.

Anyway...I'm going to add my complaint about this margin thing to the bug list.

Yep. Tedious, huh?

And I honestly can't see why Madcap thought this was a good way to do it. Or, for that matter, why they thought we needed a margin setting added at all; why not just let the user's CSS define that the same as every other element in the topic?
