Deleting conditional tags -- keeping or deleting the text

Post by ChuckJulian »

Hi, all,

I'm fairly new to Flare conditional text. I searched the forums but couldn't find my answer. I hope I'm not duplicating...

I tagged text and topics for two product versions so I could create WebHelp for both products. The company has decided to scrap one of the products. I'd like to delete both conditional tags, because they're no longer needed. In one case, I need to delete all the tagged text from the topics for the obsolete product. In the other case, I need to leave the text in the topics and simply "unconditionalize" the text.

As I recall, FrameMaker presents these options when you delete a conditional tag. How can I accomplish this in Flare without hunting through all 250 of my topics and manually editing the content?

Thanks much,
Chuck Julian

As far as I know, there's no automated way to remove both tags and text. You can remove the tags, and the text will simply appear as normal, unconditional text.

Here's how I would approach this issue (others here may be able to come up with something more clever):

1) Run a report that will tell you where all the conditional tags are. This will help you to make sure you know which topics, and which sections of each topic contain the conditions.

2) For the condition whose text you would like to delete, go to every topic on the report for that tag and delete the conditioned text (turn on Conditional Text Indicators in the View > Show menu to make that easier). Long and winding process, but it works.

3) Re-run the report to make sure you didn't miss any instances of that condition.

4) Delete both condition tags. Text from the one will become non-conditational, and the other empty condition tag will simply disappear.
