Capture newbie here

Post by ccardimon »

But I have used Snagit quite a bit. Any suggestions on getting started with Capture?

Start making many screenshots and use the tools to prettify them, at least that is how I got to learn about Capture. You may want to spend some time and read up on profiles, very useful!

Thanks for replying, RamonS. I have been trying to capture a UI I'm documenting, but I'm getting the UI along with my desktop wallpaper.

Do I actually have to memorize the shortcut keys shown in Configure Hot Keys? I don't suppose Capture minimizes to the systray when not in use, as it is not independent of Flare.

Capture is independent from Flare. What you can do is select what you want to capture from the Capture menu. You can also select to capture a region. What you should do is have the application that you want to capture from in the foreground, then select Capture and choose your settings. Capture will then get out of the way when you attempt to grab a region.

there are some workflow efficiencies in Capture that are not in any other tools.
which may appear awkward when you use Capture.
but once you get used to it. the awkwardness disappears.

for example, a callout is more than just a container of text. Dragging a callout or object, can be used to automatically set the background to a specific effect, grayscale/blur. which is a pretty fast way to make things consistent quickly in all your screenshots.

so the templates and callouts are not just plain boxes or annotations in a sense.

You can integrate screenshots into Flare projects much quicker too.

This retains the all important .props directly after capture.
