When I rename folder titles where my topics are stored, Flare tells me that it's updating the links. If I update several folders in a row and click Yes to update the links, and then run a report for broken links, there are a lot of new broken links. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong, or is Flare just buggy like this (even in version 4)?

Re: Broken Links Even After Flare 'Updates Files"
Sadly, this seems to be an ongoing problem, especially in very large projects or big rearranging jobs. I've reported the problem and sent in a sample project, but hear crickets in the distance...
If you're having this problem, please report it and send in an example. http://madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx Then I won't feel so alone

I've seen that happen as well. I think it helps to save and close all documents before renaming folders or files. It may also make a difference how you created your links, but I haven't confirmed that. Linking to topics within the same folder is quick and easy, but I suspect it may introduce other problems that don't occur if you link topics "the long way" by browsing through your project.
Good luck!

I mentioned this on another thread but will throw it in here: My organization suspects a link between this problem and files that were originally imported from Frame content. Were yours?
Re: Broken Links Even After Flare 'Updates Files"
I've had the same problem and, yes, my files were imported from FrameMaker. In fact, my files were FrameMaker 6 files that had to be saved in FrameMaker 8 before they could be imported. Did you have to perform this additional step, too? Maybe that's part of the problem...

Hmm i think our frame files were originally Frame 5 and we saved in 7 before importing
Re: Broken Links Even After Flare 'Updates Files"
It's not just a Framemaker improt problem. Our project originally started in Flare 1.0 importing files from Robohelp. Lots of changes later, in Flare 5, we still find renaming and updating links to fail occasionally. Of course, our project has at least 1,000 pages/topics, so make of that what you will.
I call it a bug. Madcap hasn't made the fix a priority.
