Can't open chms generated by Flare
Can't open chms generated by Flare
I can't open .chms generated by Flare. I get a 'There is not enough memory available for this task' message. However, my system does have the memory, and Flare and Outlook are the only programs I have opened. The .chms won't open from Flare either - e.g. I click View Output after I build it in the Target Editor. I tried non Flare generated .chms, and I can open those without a problem.
Is this a Flare issue or is this an issue with my computer?

Which version of Flare are you running? Does it happen with all CHMs that Flare creates, or is it just this project? Can you re-create the problem in a sample project?
Re: Can't open chms generated by Flare
I'm running 4.2.1. It is happening with every .chm Flare creates. I have tried it in all existing projects, and I created a test project and it wouldn't open that .chm either.doc_guy wrote:Which version of Flare are you running? One significiant thing I did do that might have affected Flare was I install the latest Windows updates. However, the updates didn't affect any other .chm projects created by other sources. This issue is only in Flare.

Hi, Ashley,
It may be worth running MJ's Help Diagnostics to verify that all the HTML Help compiler components are properly installed on your computer. You can download this utility from here:
http://helpware.net/downloads/index.htm#MJs
Perhaps you can attach the report generated by MJ's Help Diagnostics to your next message in this thread?

Re: Can't open chms generated by Flare
I had a coworker check and see if she could open one of the .chms I generated, and she got the same 'not enough memory' message. She has not installed the latest Microsoft updates, so I can rule out that as the cause. She checked her computer memory, and she has plenty to spare as well, so that error message isn't making any sense. We both get this message when tried to generate a 2kb size .chm, so I don't know if tit is he act of opening the Flare .chm is taxing our computers.

Hi, Ashley,
Your MJ's Help Report looks good to me; there's nothing in it to indicate why you are generating corrupt .chm files.
Can you successfully compile a .chm file with HTML Help Workshop (C:\Program Files\HTML Help Workshop\hhw.exe)? If you can, this may suggest that your Flare installation is faulty.

I can compile and read .chm files from HTML Help Workshop. I have been wondering if I should try uninstalling and reinstalling Flare.
Thanks for your help!

Could be Flare, or it could be the .NET framework.
If you do uninstall Flare, be sure to rip the registry keys out so you get a fresh, clean installation.
To rip the registry keys out (after you uninstall Flare):

u may want to re-register the itcc.dll on your system

Also I would see if you create a new one topic project and if that will open.
