How do I open a topic from the TOC and have if appear in a second window (skin) on top the main Help viewer (much like old WinHelp feature)? My output is HTML help. MadCap 4.2.1. Obviously, not all TOC entries would open in the second window.
I have tried this: from TOC, R-click link > Properties > Advanced and set the Open in Skin field to the name of my desired skin ("Second"). It did not work.
Thanks,
Roger
Open a second window (skin) from TOC
Re: Open a second window (skin) from TOC
I am having the same problem with my .chm, also in Flare 4.2.1. I want a TOC entry to pop open another .chm in a new window (don't like the merged TOCs) and its not working.
Roger,
You have probably tried this but, on your TOC entry, R-click link > Properties > Advanced, did you try the Open in Browser Frame field? According to the Help, "the _blank destination file will open in a new browser window." It did not work work my .chm file, but maybe it will work for your topic.

Re: Open a second window (skin) from TOC
Don't mean to be a pain, but does anyone have information regarding opening a second window from the TOC? The frustrating part about this issue is it used to work just fine. Actually, if I link a TOC book in Flare to a slave .chm file that was generated in RoboHelp X5 (*gasp*), it still does work. A new window opens just fine.
But when I link a TOC book in Flare to a slave .chm file that was generated in Flare, I get a "page cannot display" error. Clicking around in the Flare slave .chm clears the initial error, but this is really sloppy for an end user.
Do I really need to maintain my slave .chm in Robohelp for this functionality to work?

Thanks, JACORTES,
But your suggestion . . .

. . . did not work. I've tried all combinations of possibilities in the Advanced dialog. No luck.jacortes wrote:on your TOC entry, R-click link > Properties > Advanced, did you try the Open in Browser Frame field? Re: Open a second window (skin) from TOC
Sorry, Roger. I also have no traction on this issue. It would be nice to hear something from MadCap. That it works with RoboHelp generated .chms (in my case) is disturbing considering Flare is a superior product.

Update from MadCap:
>>Thank you for send me the steps. I was able to reproduce the issue, for this reason I logged it as a bug. The current bug number is: 29166. Hopefully, this issue will be addressed in the next version of Flare.<<
This was in regards to opening a Flare-generated slave .chm from the TOC, and getting it to open correctly in a new window. I have asked them to log the bug for opening any TOC item in a new window.
Fingers crossed.
