Favorite Searches

Post by TA08 »

On the "Favorites" tab in the generated WebHelp output for some reason I am unable to get the “Favorite Searches” option to work, it just keeps displaying “there are no saved searches” even though I have added pages located using the search but these are saved under “Favorite Topics” instead!
Can anyone help me resolve this plse?

They're appearing on the Favorites pane or under the "Favorite Topics" section of the Favorites pane? Which "add to favorites" icon are you clicking after you perform the search -- the one next to the search field in the Search pane, or the one in the toolbar above the topic?

Thank you for your response Lisa. I know where the pages are saved but what I don't understand is why it is displaying an exclamation warning sign advising "(there are no saved searches)" under Favorite Searches when I have saved pages from the search or how can I remove the Favorite Searches from this pane?

The Favorite Searches only saves the search terms, not the pages from the search. Saved pages are displayed under Favorite Topics.

Are you testing this feature when running the help from the output folder? If so, do you delete the output folder before building (which I recommend)? If you do, then it could be that the favorite search terms are saved to a different cookie in a different location or are saved differently than favorite topics, and when you delete the output folder you lose those references. The search*.xml pages are generated every time you do a build, so if the cookie stores references to where terms are located in each of those files, then those references would change every time you do a build, so that could blow out the cookie. That's total guessing on my part, though.

Does the Favorite Topics feature work correctly?

Just to be clear, adding a favourite search is different to adding a favourite topic, and you do it from the search pane.

You need to open the search pane, enter a search term in the box, and then click the icon to the right of the Search button ('add this search to favorites'). Adding a search favourite saves the search term itself, not a topic.
