This usually comes up after a new version is released... You can install Flare v5 alongside Flare v4 -- it won't overwrite v4.
There might be some backward compatibility issues, so you might want to make a copy of any project before you open it in v5. That way if v5 makes changes to your files you still have the older version to back to, if necessary. For instance, if there are multiple users that don't all upgrade at once but you want to start playing with v5 while you wait for them to upgrade.

Re: Flare 5 now available
I got my new number and I have F5 up and running. I am just playing around with some of the new features now to see how they look.
I think there is a bug in the new Diff function for the file backup. The differences are marked correctly in the text mode, but when I switch to the WYSIWYG mode, it just shows me two identical copies of the file. I'll open it as a bug in a day or so, just in case I'm doing something wrong.
Otherwise, I like the new text edior and I really like the idea of the relationship table. We aren't a DITA shop (yet, at least) so support for DITA isn't a huge deal at the moment, but it is nice to see they are headed in that direction.

Re: Flare 5 now available
Just installed F5.0.
I was happy to see that you can now (in the Option button for pdf output) define how the pdf opens and disable bookmarks from being generated in the pdf TOC. Saves time post-processing in Acrobat. I would also like to collapse the pdf TOC which is expanded by default to all heading levels (unless there's a way to do this I haven't found yet).
The revamped internal text editor is also very welcome. The simple fact of having line numbers and a spot of color is very useful when debugging (and means I don't have to open the topic or support file in an external editor).
And last - but not least - (for now - I'm sure there's plenty more to discover) the possibility of adding conditions to target output and also the option to not build targets with all skins. Been waiting a while for that one. Merci MadCap!

Re: Flare 5 now available
Be careful though. I installed V5 and it blew away my Flare V4 registration. That's never happened to me before.LTinker68 wrote:You can install Flare v5 alongside Flare v4 -- it won't overwrite v4.
Update
I realized that I used my updated email address (due to corporate email changes) with Flare V5. Since this address was different than what I used with V4, it wanted to re-register.
Re: Flare 5 now available
Yeah, I have the same problem. We went through three different email addresses as our company was bought by one corporation and that corporation was bought by a bigger corporation. So if I switch from v3 to v4 I have to re-register. I think I'll be ok going from v4 to v5, but I guess I'll find out.RussGuill wrote:I realized that I used my updated email address (due to corporate email changes) with Flare V5. I'm the one tasked with performing backwards compatibility checks for our group. I did this with 4.2.1 and we found enough issues that prevented us from making the switch. Has anybody found any Big Ones wrt to BC that I can keep an eye on?LTinker68 wrote:There might be some backward compatibility issues

Exciting... until I discovered I still couldn't turn off analyser!! My enhancement request must've fallen on deaf ears.
Someone's boring me. I think it's me.

Or there just weren't enough of the same request submitted so it was just you whispering instead of a crowd roaring.Skooter wrote:My enhancement request must've fallen on deaf ears.
