Flare V5 PDF terrible, going back to 4.2.1

Post by sarrants »

I opened a project in version 5--no changes. The PDF output is TERRIBLE--inconsistent spacing, bold and Italic don't show up where I want them, then show up where I don't. I will have to go back to 4.2.1 in order to print.
I am getting these errors in 5 that I didn't get in 4.2.1.

Failed to convert PDF Font: followed by the font name. The sybsystem is PDF Writer.

You didn't see any new changes in version 5? There are lots of changes. I love it so far. Only thing is that I had work arounds for bugs in 4.2 that I have to fix now that the bugs are fixed.

No, I mean I made no changes to my source files. The PDF output is enough to get me to go back to 4.2.1.

On the basis of your post, I thought I'd test out my own PDF-targetted project in V5. Unfortunately, I see none of the problems you're describing. My PDF looks fine, just as I expected it to look.

Have you tried testing a different project? Test this out on some other PDF-targetted project to see if you get the same terrible results. Or create a new Flare project with a PDF target. Throw in a couple of topics and the other stuff you need to build the target. Then see what you get.

If you get a decent PDF, then perhaps there is something corrupted in the project that's producing the terrible PDF. You might need to contact Tech Support.

Sorry that I could not be of any assistance, but I did want you to know the results of my testing.

Hi watch out for those short-line elimination settings.

best leave them at default first then tweak em when you really want to explore it.
If you submit your bug feedback request here, the more likely it'll get fixed or included in a future release

It looks like a tempest in a teapot...the design group here reorganized their resource server, so the @font-face entries in the stylesheet were pointing to the wrong place, so Flare couldn't find the fonts, so that's probably why it wasn't able to embed them.

Looks like "Nothing to see here folks, move on..."

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

The collective sigh of relief from La Jolla, CA was audible in New England. :-)

No one likely heard my ARRRGH! when I read the original email, aside from nearby cow-orkers.

Believe me, no one was more relieved than I was. I was afraid that Madcap had been infected by Creeping Redmonditis. Instead, it was an anal-compulsive worker at my place.
