Floating headers and footers
Floating headers and footers
I am new to using Flare & had been using v3.1 and decided to upgrade to 5 as I did not like v4. I have generated a build but all of my headers & footers are “floating†over the content on the page. On some of the pages you actually scroll the content on the page yet the header & footer are set and block the content. Does anyone know how I can fix this please?
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Floating headers and footers
care to post the source code of a topic and the stylesheet?
oh, and: What format are you producing? HTML Help? WebHelp? .NET Help?

Re: Floating headers and footers
If you're building online output, then it sounds like your header and footer content are inside DIVs that have a higher z-index than the body and you have the DIVs' positions "locked" so that they don't move with the content. If so, then you need to change some of the attributes in the DIVs you're using.

Re: Floating headers and footers
Hi,
Thanks for your responses.
Lisa you are exactly right! I am generating output using Webhelp and MyHTML help mainly to be used for intranets. I have inherited this project, style sheet etc and it is a very steep learning curve using Flare. I recently upgraded from v3.1 to Flare 5 yesterday and generated a build to see if Flare 5 would mess up my project like Flare 4 did and noticed that the majority of the pages have fixed headers & footers. I found searching through the Madcap KB was a waste of time as I was unable to find a solution to fix this or pages were missing from the db and coming up as 404 errors!
Any assistance you can provide in resolving this & any tips for using version 5 would be most appreciated.

Re: Floating headers and footers
Does it appear that way in the finished output, or just the Preview window?

Re: Floating headers and footers
Lisa, it appears that way in both the generated output as well as the Preview window.
i-tietz - it appears that I am unable to attach the source code as a txt file, other than copying & pasting all the code, any suggestions on a workaround?

Re: Floating headers and footers
The Test text is in what sort of object - a DIV? Then post the source code with the DIV and the "surrounding area", maybe even up to the start of the body.
Additionally I would like to see the stylesheet source code of the DIV and all objects that are higher in hierarchy inside the topic, e. g. html, body, ...

Re: Floating headers and footers
I'd copy and paste all the code into a code tag set (using the buttons above the message composition box).TA08 wrote:Lisa, it appears that way in both the generated output as well as the Preview window.

Re: Floating headers and footers
I have now resolved the issue I had with the header & footer, thank you.
I downloaded Mozilla Firefox http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/ to see if the problem would be replicated in that browser & it was. With Firefox there are free add ons that you can download to assist web developers, the one I used was Firebug. Using this add on I was able to identify that the problem was within the CSS where some of the positions was 'fixed' so I changed these to 'relative' & this solved the problem for me.

Could you post the resolution for anyone else who might come across the issue?
