Is there a way to use the "Update cross-references" tool over more than one document at a time?
Preferrably, it would also update all cross-references while building any output.

I'm pretty sure it does that anyway. It did for the last project I had anyway. (Generating PDF output.)siskamoens wrote:Preferrably, it would also update all cross-references while building any output.

Ah right, it appartently does update cross references when building (in Webhelp too), it just doesn't update the cross-ref labels in the content editor.
A bit annoying, but a minor issue obviously

Re: Update cross-references in all (or more than one) documents
In a way, I kind of get why it does that, because it's the TOC that determines the order of the topics, not the location of the files in the Content Explorer. And the output type determines whether you have a continuous stream of pages (print output) or individual "pages" (online output), so the appearance (and page number) of the xref will change depending on the output. So while it might be nice to have the XML Editor display page numbers when in page view, it might add more processing overhead because it would have to compare the topic to the TOC and try to calculate the page numbers and so on, so it might not be worth it to have xrefs display properly in the XML Editor or Preview.
