Hi,
I just opened my new Flare V5 on my new PC under Vista. I am used to 4.2 under XP and I noticed that the background of my XML editor is all white. Very annoying because I can't see my page borders. Also the tag bars are white. They only take a colour when you hover over them. Is this normal? And if not, can I change this?
Thanks,
Joost

Not seeing that here. (Actually, when I look at your screenshot I can see some grey in the page borders and tag bars, although it is very subtle - my Flare interface is more pronounced than that, fwiw.)
I believe that Flare uses the colour scheme from your Windows environment - you haven't changed your desktop colours recently, have you?

Try reducing the contrast on the monitor, especially when you have a CRT monitor.....unless you want to break it to get a new one.

Re: XML Editor white background in Flare V5
i think its more a monitor contrast/brightness issue as RamonS sez it. or check your display drivers to check that the contrast/brightness was not manipulated by software driver settings.
If you submit your bug feedback request here, the more likely it'll get fixed or included in a future release

No, it is standard Vista. I an see the subtle grey shade too but it is very bad for the eyes. I'll try fiddling with the contract of my screen as other people suggested.KevinDAmery wrote:Not seeing that here. Re: XML Editor white background in Flare V5
It can't possibly be anything to do with the monitor contrast/brightness, that wouldn't make the screenshot posted here look white/grey (instead of the normal blue).
Also, I don't have Vista here, but in XP the Windows appearance/theme settings don't seem to affect the Flare interface all that much - at least not the elements that are white/grey in the screenshot. Maybe Flare takes more notice of the Windows settings under Vista?

The monitor settings do not influence what is in the graphics memory. Turn your monitor off and press PrintScreen and you will get a screenshot that is not all black.

Re: XML Editor white background in Flare V5
I've had Flare 3.1 do that before under XP, it was after a severe clean up of the machine, a restart fixed it though.
Sorry, that wasn't much help - other than I've seen it and it wasn't serious but I would think you've already tried turning it off and on again.
Re: XML Editor white background in Flare V5
I have a way for you to have a work environment as you want it, but it's rather a bit of an effort:
Every topic has a style sheet assigned - mostly it's the standard style sheet.
Important to know: The part under Medium: (default) is also used for your XML editor.
You could open the style sheet in the text editor, move all the settings into the section that is relevant for your output format, e.g. screen, if it's for online output (HTML Help, WebHelp, DOTNET Help, etc.)
or print, if it's a print output. The first p is in the default section, the second p is in the print section.
Make sure:
1. The "specific" section is placed BEHIND the default part!
2. If you specify sth in the default that you don't want to pass on to the other sections, you will have to specify it there, too. If you don't sepcify it there, the setting of default is passed on into all other sections.
E.g. the background-color. Usually you would want it "white" for output, but sth like a shade of grey in the XML editor.
That way you can modify your work XML editor - even the font. Just remember to "neutralise" it for the other sections.
