Does Flare support WPF?

Post by TechPubs4 »

Our developers have implemented WPF architecture. Can anyone tell me if Flare supports WPF and if so, how do I generate output that is usable by development? We are not using any .net Help. We have been generating WebHelp with context-sensitive Help for each of our topics and a simple Help link on the UI.
Thanks,
Julie

WPF is a way of developing interfaces that resembles XML (using the XAML language). The underlying technology for the application is still .NET, so implementing help is no different from other .NET applications. You should have no trouble using Microsoft HTML Help (CHM) or WebHelp.
Until next time....

Thank you for your reply. Can anyone tell me which output type might work best with WPF? Our software is currently web-based, but now we will be adding the WPF for PC-based pages. Currently, we produce WebHelp with context-sensitive Help at the page level. Our Developers have suggested CHMs for the WPF pages, but that seems like old technology to me. In addition, I thought that CHMs had security issues.

There are varying opinions on which format is "better" but ultimately I think it comes down to how your customers are going to access the application and help.

* If your customers are accessing the app over the web, then use WebHelp
* If your customers are accessing the app over an internal network, also use WebHelp unless you are allowed to change the customer's security settings in their registry (I'm assuming that you won't be allowed to do that: if it was my network, I wouldn't let you 8) )
* If your customers are accessing the app from their local PC, you can consider CHM (WebHelp is still a viable option)
* And if your customers aren't all using Windows, use WebHelp
Until next time....
