Using Flare V4 and V5 on the same machine
Using Flare V4 and V5 on the same machine
We typically do some preliminary testing on copies of our projects before moving from one version of Flare to another. However, extra machines for testing aren't always easy to come by. I know that Flare V3 and V4 could be run on the same machine with no problems. Is the same thing true for Flare V4 and V5?

As far as I know, yes. I recommend to evaluate V5 with copies of your project as it may not be easily possible to go back to V4 with a project after it was used with V5.

Re: Using Flare V4 and V5 on the same machine
I'm running all the releases of Flare since 2 on this machine and there doesn't seem to be any problems.
But, as RamonS says, use a copy of your project for evaluation purposes because changes made in a later version may not be compatible with earlier software (and I know V$ topics don't always play nicely in V3). If you're happy with the software after the evaluation you can either keep the modified copy as the real deal, or apply all the changes after importing your 'real' project.

We are running 5 and 4 on our machines with no problems whatsoever. We make updates and edits (as well as notes about regression issues) in 5 and then have to revert to 4 to perform our Flare-Frame-PDF process and it works seamlessly.

Personnaly I don't recommend opening a project in Flare v5, and then going back to Flare v4 with the same project, it can cause some headaches, but your milage may vary..

Re: Using Flare V4 and V5 on the same machine
I agree with Rick.
While you can run Flare v4 and Flare v5 on the same machine without problems, there ARE differences in how the project files work. If you use any of the features in Flare 5, those features will break in Flare 4. Once you have begun working with a project in Flare v5, I recommend you stay with Flare v5 for that project.
However, if you want to run other projects in Flare 4, that is fine.

I agree with the last two writers in this thread: Stay with one version for each project ...
Otherwise the same will happen to you: Each time I open a project with the other Flare version for the first time, the scanning-and-checking-orgy at opening the project extends to between 10 and 20 minutes on a project > 3,000 topics ... really not worth it ...
