Icons in skins

Post by mwmartz »

Okay, I started out using the Robin skin on MadCap's website because we liked most of the icons in it. However, once I manipulated the skin background colors, the icons are no longer transparent. So, I'm trying to find those icons so that I can make them transparent. I see the icon name in the Skin Editor (e.g., printer.png, application_side_contract.png, etc.). However, I cannot seem to locate the actual icon on my system. I opened the skin in Notepad. It looks like they're supposed to be stored in the Resouces folder, but I don't see them. I've even done a search of my entire local drive with no luck. Can someone please tell me where they are hiding?

Sorry to be making such a regular pest of myself these days, but I don't deal with skins often.

The icons are actually embedded inside the skin file itself, which is why you probably can't find them.

To edit them, build the help and look in the following folder: Output \ (your name) \ (your target name) \ Data \ Skin(skin name)
You'll find the icons generated from the skin file.

You can edit these icons, and then re-import them into your skin file.

In the skin file, you need to go to the Styles tab, then look under the ToolbarItem section.
For each item, you need to update the icons in the properties section.
When you select an icon, the files listed are those inside the skin file, so you need to select [Browse for image...] and select your updated icon file. This replaces the icon in the skin.
