TOC Syncing is great... except when it isn't...

Post by beagley »

Hi,
I love the TOC Syncing option, which means that when I click a link in an article, the Table of Contents will automatically shift to show the topic I'm viewing. That's great because it allows users to see related topics, etc.

HOWEVER, when I use WebHelp's Index or Search, and browse several topics, and then return to the Table of Contents view, all of the books that contained topics I browsed are open. In other words, the Table of Contents is now wide open, for all the topics I browsed.

Is there anyway to KEEP synching the TOC, EXCEPT for when browsing in Index or Search?

I can post screenshots if this question makes no sense. ;-)

No. Actually, that's the same behavior that happens if you're moving through topics via hyperlinks. For instance, if you open one book, click on a topic, and click on a hyperlink in that topic that goes to a topic in another book, then both books will still be expanded after the jump. If you keep jumping to different books via hyperlinking, then the number of expanded books will continue to grow.

You can submit a feature request at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx asking for the ability to have the TOC expand the necessary book and collapse all others, regardless of how you got to the topic in the book. Likewise if you jump to a topic in the root of the TOC then all expanded books should collapse.
