I can find various references to this on the web, but most are not specific to help and none are any help to me.
I have three current Flare projects that generate html help.
When you open one of them, if you click in the main/right panel for the first/default topic, a Windows Internet Explorer error message pops up, saying "Stack overflow at line: 15". (The other two projects and all the other pages in the faulty project are fine.)
Is there any easy way to fix this?

Re: Stack overflow at line: 15
Apart from the usual Windows fixes - reboot and so on - have you tried opening the offending topic in a text editor
If you use something with numbered lines, you should be able to find line 15, but remember that whitespace is ignored when parsing, so the offending line will only be somewhere close to the line 15 in the editor. Check 'line 15' and see if you can see anything strange. If need be, check it against a topic that works.

Re: Stack overflow at line: 15 (or 137 or whatever)
Thanks, I've rebooted and recompiled etc plenty of times.
Also, I've just upgraded to Flare v5 and now the stack overflow is at line 137, but when I opened the topic in the text editor, it only has 28 lines!
Anyway, it's only a short topic, and the only oddity I could see was a superflous pair of <p> and </p> tags that I removed (nowhere near line 15 or 137) and that seems to have fixed the problem - even though all the lines that were between them still have one level of indentation more than they "need". I don't know if or how I ought to change that, but for now, "if it aint broke...".

Re: Stack overflow at line: 15
"Stack overflow" is a program error, not a content error - so I would be 98.46% sure that the Line 15 in question would be in one of Madcap's code modules, not in your topic files. (So not something anyone outside of Madcap Development will be able to track down.)
If it happens again, I would open a support ticket with Madcap and supply them with a copy of the affected files.

Where these Robohelp Projects at one time? I have seen that in old Robohelp projects that are brought into Flare.

Yes, but if you're lucky it will fail (and report) the line in the topic calling the external program.KevinDAmery wrote:"Stack overflow" is a program error, not a content error - so I would be 98.46% sure that the Line 15 in question would be in one of Madcap's code modules, not in your topic files. It's something to try that doesn't take long when you're tracking an error.

Maybe. The project predates my arrival here 2 years ago and the authors here did use RoboHelp around then.Madcap Guru wrote:Where these Robohelp Projects at one time?
Anyway, removing the surplus <p> </p> tags seems to have resolved it.

Re: Stack overflow at line: 15 (or 137 or whatever)
That is because the error messages are referenced against the output file. I complained about this several times to MadCap, because giving the corresponding line in the source file is much more helpful. But as you see, there doesn't seem much interest in making a stupid message into a smart message.Cecily wrote:Thanks, I've rebooted and recompiled etc plenty of times.

Re: Stack overflow at line: 15
Hi Everyone,
I'm just about finished with my latest project but in my final output I'm receiving this stack overflow error. My error is stack overflow at line 136. I went through my entire project and removed all of the <p> and </p> tags as the previous poster mentioned it working for them. I've rebooted, resaved, and still getting this error.
If anyone has any suggestions I would love them!
Thank you,
Robin
