TOC book doesn't go to 1st topic on linked TOC entry

Post by amatsumoto »

I have a WebHelp TOC that includes links to two of our other Flare projects. When I generate Help, the "books" for the linked topics are there, as expected. When I click on the book in the Help TOC panel, though, I expect the the first topic from the linked project to show in the topic panel, but it doesn't. Instead, the book expands to show all of its topics, but the displayed topic remains on whatever was last in the topic panel. What I want it to do is to go to the first topic from that project (this is how it works with the TOC books that use topics that are native to the main help project). Is there a way to do this, or is this behavior just a byproduct of how linked projects are brought in?

My linked project TOC looks like this:

Code: Select all

Intro topic
Book
     Topic
     Topic
     Topic
Book
     Topic
     Etc.

I'm afraid you can't have a topic linked to a project (or another TOC) entry in the TOC.

I'd suggest putting in a feature request (I've already done so).

To follow up, I received a reply from MadCap support after I logged the bug. It turns out that I needed to enable a switch in the properties for the TOC link. To do this, right-click on the linked item in the TOC and select Properties. Pick the Advanced panel and enable "When merging, replace node with merged TOC." When I regenerated my help, first topic for the linked project appears as I would expect it to.
