Spell Checking

Post by booey »

Does anyone know how Flare decides if a word is spelt incorrectly. There must be some master dictionary somewhere but I cant find one. There is no SQL database associated with Flare that could contain a dictionary and I cant find a global .mcdic. The only mcdic files in the project level are ones used to add words to.

In your Program Files, see the file " Flare.app\Resources\Xml\LanguageCodes.xml", which includes references to the directory " Flare.app\Resources\SSCE". A google on SSCE reveals that Flare may well use the Sentry Spell-Checker Engine.

Thanks Greg, after I posted my question I did more and more digging for a couple of hours. Yes you are right its in C:\Program Files\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V5\Flare.app\Resources\SSCE. Each language has 2 files, one is a text file, the other a binary which is driven by ssce5432.dll a third party program Sentry Spell-Checker Engine from Wintertree Software. Now to see if I can modify the words it works with.....?
