Page Number Variable Formatting

Post by Nina Esile »

Having difficulty getting the formatting I'm applying to a page number variable to stick.

I've formatted it to align right, as in the following screen shot:
FooterCode.jpg
But then, when I generate the PDF, this is what I get:
FooterOutput.jpg
Any ideas about how to make it stick?

Update on the above issue. I created a one row table, placed the variable in the table, formatted it the way I like, right-aligned it in the table cell. It works and I'll go with it, but I still wonder why right aligning the text didn't work when it wasn't in a table.

How did you right-align the variable in the first screenshot? Did you try inline formatting on that paragraph, or did you use a paragraph class that was set with text alignment to the right?

I selected the variable and then clicked right-align button. I guess you'd call this inline formatting.

I *think* I also tried creating a p.rightAlign style and then applied that style to only that line, but I'm a little unclear about that. I've tried a few things. :?

I'm trying to remember if that's supposed to work. I usually have a table just because you can't have two separate footer frames on the same page, so I use the table to keep my document title or chapter title (depending on page type) in one cell and the page number in the other cell. But if you create a paragraph class, then you can apply it to that paragraph in the footer by right-clicking on the <p> block on the left side of the XML Editor and selecting the appropriate class from the popup menu. I know that works on a paragraph tag inside a table, but I can't remember if it works on a paragraph tag outside a table. If not, submit a bug report.
