I'm new to Flare. I noticed in the styles guide that I can use Madcap's help/PDF style for my own projects. It's already helped in some ways (for example, wasn't sure if I needed a different heading styles for pagebreak and nopagebreak and saw that Madcap has them).

Are there any drawbacks/problems/restrictions with this? Also, is this the only comprehensive style avail, or are there others available (not that I need 'em--this seems great just asking)?

I don't think there is any restriction on using the stylesheet that comes with Flare. As far as using it goes, that depends on whether or not it fits with your corporate branding requirements. Your company may have different colours and fonts they want to use.
What I did when I showed up as our company's first tech writer close to three years ago was to grab a copy of our website's stylesheet and use that as the basis for the help stylesheet (adding and modifying as required). I wouldn't just use it as is, but the company website stylesheet is a good place to start because that way the docs should have a consistent look and feel to how your company presents itself to customers.

Until next time....
