I am trying to get my PDF target set up so that the headings used in the front matter appear in the header of the page but not in the TOC. Basically, we use a PrefaceHaading style for sections in the front matter, including the "Contents" heading above the TOC. I would like to include the first preface heading on a page in the header of the pages in the preface.
In Word or Frame I can do this by directly referencing the style. However, it appears that Flare will only let me reference heading styles. I thought that setting the mc-heading_level property to 0 might do the trick, but if I do that the heading is removed from the TOC but doesn't appear in the header either.
I thought I could use Running Header/Footer variables, but they only work for Frame or Word output.
If I have to, I'll hard code a header and use different pages in the page layout, but I'd really rather find an automatic solution.
Can anyone help?
Regards
Keith
How to get Preface headings in header but not TOC

I haven't tried this but I would think you could format a higher Heading style that you don't use to look like H1 or H2. Then create a new page layout for the preface and use h6 or h7 as the running header.

While the Running Header variables are only for Frame/Word, you can use the "Heading" variables for page layouts/PDF output. When inserting the variable, look for "Heading" instead of the running one (yes, it is a bit confusing) - they should be in the list automatically.ksoltys wrote:...
