Do you want to start the "Convert to XML Wizard"

Post by tomjohnson1492 »

When I click on a topic, sometimes I see a little dialog box that says "The file is not an XML file. Do you want to start the "Convert to XML Wizard"?"

These are obviously XML topics because I created them from within Flare. When I close Flare down and restart it, it opens the file fine and does not show the message. I think it only happens when I'm moving files around. It's like Flare isn't smart enough to recognize that a file that has been moved is an XML file or something.

Anyone else experience this annoying bug?

Is this a .htm file that you copied into the project, or one that you created from scratch within Flare? With .htm files that you copy into the project, you'll see that message the first time you open the topic, although I thought it said XHTML, not just XML. Anyway, when you click Yes, Flare adds code to the beginning of the topic, specifically the xmlns line. Can't remember what else is added. Once you save that modified file, you won't see that message again for that file. You will see it again if you open another file that was copied into the project.

So if you get that message, you do want to click Yes.

You shouldn't see that message for topics that you create from scratch from within Flare.

I could understand if this were an .htm file I copied or imported, but no, it's a topic I created in Flare by clicking the little new topic button. It's clearly a bug here.

Yeah, that would definitely be a bug. No idea why it would be doing that and I've never seen it do that before. Does it happen in a test project, too, or just that one project?

I've seen this issue before with certain topics. I cannot remember how I fixed the issue, but it was a single-topic fix where I went into the code and found a problem (extra or invalid XML perhaps?).

Sorry I can't be of more help. :(
