div takes space?

Post by bbernat117 »

I'm seeing that a div tag is taking up space. Is that normal? IEven if i set the margins to 0 it's taking up space. Before I rethink what I'm doing I want to make sure this expected behavior and I'm not missing something dumb I need to set for my div to take up no space. See pic.

Bigger picture, I'm trying to see if I can use a div tag as a zero-space element to which I can apply a page break. This would allow me to avoid creating separate (.pagebreakbefore+someotherthing) style in some cases, since Flare can't apply multiple classes to an element. So there may be other ways to address, like some other element I could use that takes up no space?

It could be the padding value, although I doubt it. Did you specify a font size for that DIV? If you did, and it's large, make sure to remove any spaces that might be inside the DIV.

Also, check the margin-top property of the paragraph class that's applied to the Contents line.

Lastly, do you have any complex selectors that would be setting the properties of a paragraph when it follows a DIV?

If this is for Word output, unfortunately I think you're barking up the wrong tree; when you export to Word from Flare, Divs get ignored completely. This means that any page break settings you applied to the Div would be lost when you go to Word.

It might work if you're going directly to PDF (I haven't tested page breaks in Divs, although I have confirmed that Divs themselves do translate into PDF - how cleanly depends on what you're doing stylistically in the Div).

I have no idea whether it would work if you're outputting to Frame (I haven't used Flare and Frame together).
