Importing a glossary from word

Post by carrollk »

Hi,
We have inherited a glossary from another department that we want to import into Flare without having to manually enter each new term using the Glossary Editor. I did a bit of digging and it looks like you can import glossaries (from word or excel) into Flare with a bit of messing around.

My question is, has anyone ever done this before and is there an easier way?

Thanks,
Karen

Hi,

my idea may sound weird, still it's rather simple: I suggest to use Doc-To-Help for creating a Glossary in Word. The following steps are necessary:
1. Create a new project with contains Doc-To-Help's default contents. This includes a document named Glossary.
2. Copy your Glossary document into this Glossary document of your Doc-To-Help project.
3. Apply the style "Glossary Heading" to all your glossary term, and the style "C1H Popup Topic Text" to all you definitions.
4. Convert your Source documents into xml documents.
5. Import this Doc-To-Help project into a Flare project.
For step 1-4 you may need a Doc-To-Help license or someone who does this steps for you.
After step 5 you have a Flare project with a file Glossary.flglo which you can use in any Flare project.

Kind regards,
