"MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
At least, that's the message that appears when I try to open one within Analyzer. At the same time, I get a Windows message box telling me that "sqlservr.exe has stopped working", but Control Panel says the SQL Service is still running. Any ideas? It's Vista Home Premium, by the way.
Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Hmm... was the project on a network drive?
We're investigating a fix for the network drive issue, I'll let you know more when I know more...

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
I got this same message when I downloaded and then tried to open my project.
I went and read the instructions in the PDF file to make sure I was doing it right and tried again. Second time was the charm, and it opened my project and started to process. You might try to open the flprj file twice in a row, see what happens. I didn't notice a sql service error. Also, i'm running XP sp2, version 2002.

I'm having the same issue (from a network drive) so maybe there's something to that. Look forward to a fix; I'm cautiously anxious to try it out.

In my case the project - in fact all three projects I tried - are on my C drive.

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Sorry, the patch has made no difference to my problem. And the install is presumably happy with my SQL Server since it didn't download or install anything other than Analyzer 1.0.1 (unless it did it stealthily).

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Hi. Just to say that Analyzer is still not working for me. I no longer get the message about not being able to open Flare project files, nor the one about sqlservr.exe not working, but now Analyzer just sits there refusing mutely to open anything. I'd like to try uninstalling then reinstalling SQL Server Express; can I do that without uninstalling and reinstalling Analyzer? TIA.

I can't offer any help, but you may want to check out this thread: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... =38&t=5482. I'm starting to wonder how many of us there are.

Thanks Marc, somehow I missed that thread. Not that it provides any comfort...
Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
This has just started happening to me as of today. Absolutely nothing has changed - it used to work just fine and today it simply won't!
I'll try the patch tomorrow and open a support call (out of time today). Any more updates on this issue?

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
It would seem that leaving my computer overnight to listen to the tortured cries of the Scottish Ranger fans rampage through Manchester city centre has somehow fixed the problem.
I'm confused - do you still want me to open a support call for it MadCap?

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Just upgraded to Flare 4 and installed Analyzer 2. Analyzer stares at me, I stare at Analyzer, nobody makes the first move .... When opening a project, nothing happens. No message, no noise, no disc activity ....
Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Did you have Analyzer v1 or is this the first time you've installed and used Analyzer? If you had Analyzer v1, then there might have been so many changes between the versions that it's getting confused.
Shut down Flare then delete the Analyzer folder that it created in the main project folder (same directory level as the Content, Output, Project, and *.flprj file). When you start Flare and open that folder, it will recreate the Analyzer folder and start scanning the project. The first time it does this, it may take some time, depending on the project size, because it's having to scan everything.

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Lisa, thanks for your hint, but no progress.
There was no previous installation of Anaylzer. I removed the Analyzer folder as per your suggestion. Analyzer recreates the folder when I access the project, but doesn't seem to analyze anything. In all projects, the Content.sdf file has the same size, 672 KB.
Flare creates the same folder, too, when I open an existing project. Same files sizes as with Analyzer.
SQL Express installed and running.
PC rebooted.

And you have .NET 3.0 or later installed?

.NET 3.0 SP 1 is installed. Flare V4 is working without problems.
Next trial:
Next trial:
- Analyzer uninstalled
- Project opened in Flare 4
- The Project Analysis pane in Flare says (no project). Shouldn't the actual project be analyzed?

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Does the project contain characters that are not part of the US English alphabet? Also, does the project get analyzed when you move it to a folder that is not buried in the My Documents and Settings/<username>/My Documents/My Projects folders? Keep in mind that Windows is incapable to handle any call to the file system longer than 255 characters. That includes not only the path and file name, but also all switches.

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Thanks Ramon,
The project path is D:\My Projects\ELE\, so that can't be it.
As mentioned, even with Flare 4 alone, my project analysis remains empty.
Is there any setup required for SQL? SQL has already been installed for another application (source control, but not in conjunction with Flare).

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Analyzer v2 installs SQL Compact or something like that. It won't use the version you already have installed, so as long as you didn't install the version of SQL that Flare installed...

Re: "MadCap Analyzer cannot open flprj files"
Thanks for your help.
Although I already saw an SQL Compact installation in the my list of programs, I downloaded and installed the one recommended in Flare online help.
Everything seems to be working now.
