You mean this error?

Compiler (Internal Error): Method not found: "Void dbAutoTrack.PDFWriter.Document.set_DeflateAlgorithm(dbAutoTrack.PDFWriter.DeflateAlgorithm)".

Yes, me too...

Yes to all of the above. Post a bug track record.

i think there'll be another fix issued within a few hours. its quite a critical one. but not to worries i imagine the maddev and support team are on it...

Yep. I'm getting the same message. Happens immediately when generating PDF output. I'll record a bug.

So I decided to restore version 4.2. I extracted the setup MSI from the 4.2 zip file. I right clicked on the MSI and chose "repair".

Flare now works for PDF output AND I'm seeing what look like the 4.2.1 fixes. For example, I can now tweak line-height to less than normal. AND the PDF output file size is much smaller. AND I think PNG images are going directly into the PDF. I could be wrong about that, but that's what it looks like.

I had the same error and contacted support. They sent me an updated DLL. Hopefully they'll either send the fix notification the same way as the patch or they'll have a KB article with the fix.

We're noticing that if you had manually installed a patch that updated that DLL, then the automatic update causes this error.

Either repairing or reinstalling the update should properly update the DLL and allow you to generate PDF output.

If you're still having problems after doing this, please let me know!

That did the trick -- just had to uninstall the patch via Add/Remove Programs, and reinstall it. Thanks Ryan!

Ryan, this situation matches me precisely.

How does one repair or reinstall an update?

A quick step-by-step would be useful.

This is what I got from MadCap:
This reason this error occurs is that a DLL file was not updated when the patch was installed. The most likely reason for this is that a manual patch was installed after 4.2 but before 4.2.1.

The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall the Flare v4.2.1 patch via the Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Windows Vista) dialog. Note that you may have to enable showing updates in this dialog to see the Flare v4.2.1 patch.

Once you uninstall the patch, install it again and you should be able to build PDFs.
Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, I do not see the "Flare 4.2.1 patch" in the Add or Remove Programs dialog.

I do see MadCap Flare V4.2 SP1, however.

Is it safe to remove that?
and will Flare then re-prompt me to download the new version? (I do not have the files anymore)

Yep! Uninstalling SP1 will remove only the update files, and the next time you start up Flare v4.2 you should be prompted to download the update.
