Re: How do I delete a project?

To pick nits here, if the project is going to be deleted from Flare, Flare should handle deleting it from wherever it is. I shouldn't have files/projects littered all over my hard drive. The dialog/application should prompt me to ask if I'd like to delete this project from my source control and/or ...

Re: Can I replace the Flare XML editor

I suppose you don't "need" them in a requirements sense, but if you want to customize your output, you are going to need to learn about them. And you aren't going to need to understand how CSS works, necessarily. But you are going to need to be willing to play in the sandbox, get a little ...

Re: Can I replace the Flare XML editor

I suggest you figure out what you'd like simplified, then figure out a way you'd like to see it implemented instead and submit an enhancement request. General rants in the forums aren't going to get you very far in terms of finding a solution to your particular problem.

Re: Is there a stylesheet for the XML editor?

If the text is tiny, it's because you set it that way in your style sheet :) The XML editor shows you what your style sheet settings are for the media type you have selected. If you want to increase the font size in the Flare editor, you need to change your style sheet or your display settings (try ...

Re: Remove condiotional tags quickly

I have thought a lot about this, and I understand the sentiment that there are certain features in Analyzer that many would like to see in Flare itself. Actually, it seems to me that most people seem to think that the feature they need right now ought to be in Flare, not in Analyzer. (Not true in ev...

Re: Remove condiotional tags quickly

I tested it in Analyzer, and it works. Woo hoo! Do you realize how much time this can save you if you need to remove or rename conditions quickly/easily? This could answer an ongoing question I've had about tracking changes for internal clients from version to version.... Then I can find all the con...

Re: Remove condiotional tags quickly

I just found a feature in Analyzer that allows you to find Used Condition Tags. The info box at the top of the panel says that you can quickly rename or remove multiple condition tag occurrences in a single batch. It claims that you can just check the box next to the conditions you want to delete, a...

Re: Remove condiotional tags quickly

I think he's saying he has several elements inside the topic that have been marked with conditions, and he wants to be able to remove all conditions settings inside the topic all at once. I don't know of any way to do this. I've had to go through conditions and remove them one by one. You can submit...

Re: Is there a stylesheet for the XML editor?

You could also create a different media type in your style sheet. Then your co-workers Flare XML Editor can use the alternate media type. When the output is built, the target can specify the correct (smaller) media type. Then you co-worker can still build content from his/her machine. As far as tabl...

Re: Flare WYSIWYG and actual output

I'm going to agree with Kevin and David. It doesn't seem reasonable to me to expect MadCap to list every possible scenario for every possible Flare option in every possible browser. My experience has been that Flare (for the most part) works with WC3 standards. Browsers that support standards should...

Oh absolutely. I wasn't countering your particular post on you unbinding, but I was meaning to give a general response to the discussion a little further up about just using Tortoise SVN instead of binding through PushOK's plugin.

Re: Flare stops responding when source control unavailable

For many things I use Tortoise SVN because it is easier, but I'll tell you one place where I'm glad I have Flare bound to SVN through PushOK's plugin: When I need to rename or move files that are linked together in the project. Unbound projects When you have an unbound project (not connected to sour...

Re: Is there a workaround for this cross-reference bug?

Sorry Tom. I've not found a solution. I've started just placing cross references to topics, which isn't ideal, but is better than no cross reference at all. If I have a cross reference somewhere, I usually have an index entry there as well, so I hope users of the printed guide will refer to the Inde...

I also don't have a problem with SVN and the PushOK plugin. I do get the message that source control couldn't be contacted, but I could click on an "work offline" button.

Re: Custom topic template: 1st Heading strangeness

I copied the factory template to a new templates directory, then edited those files.

That's weird. I'm not sure why your templates aren't working like you expect. I wonder if somebody in Support would be able to help if they saw your project files.

Re: Can I replace the Flare XML editor

What's the point of using Flare at all if all you want is standard HTML? The point of XML is that you can create your own tags to semantically describe your content, then apply some type of stylesheet or transformation to get your output into whatever format you want for output use. Since Flare is X...

Re: Can I replace the Flare XML editor

The problem with another tool is that Flare isn't writing only standard XHTML into your source documents. There are several MadCap-specific tags that you wouldn't get to use if you weren't using the Flare XML editor (variables, snippets, conditions, cross references, to name a few).

Re: Can I replace the Flare XML editor

If your question is "can I have Flare load a separate tool in place of the XML editor inside the IDE?" the answer is No. Can you use another editor? Sure the files are text files. If you don't mess up the structure, then I suppose the files should work when Flare builds the target. I think...

Another way to do this that I'd had success with is to set the size in Photoshop, including the inch dimensions. Re: Custom topic template: 1st Heading strangeness

Your code sample doesn't include the <head></head> pair. I wonder if that is the culprit? I get headings/styles to work properly with custom templates, so it IS possible.
