Re: Google Picks up "WebHelp" as Search... Why?
That is a good point, Laura... The MOST common way people reach my online help is through direct links in e-Newsletters that we distribute to our customers. But, we do get a fair number of Googlers, too... and expect to get more as our client base gets younger. NOTE TO ALL: I got a response back fro...

Re: Google Picks up "WebHelp" as Search... Why?
Did you ever have this uploaded to the production site with WebHelp as the title? Google doesn't scan the same site constantly for changes, so the version it scanned could have been called WebHelp. (in the google search results, i clicked "cache" and the page said the cached version of th...

Re: Google Picks up "WebHelp" as Search... Why?
When I look at the output, and edit the "Default.htm" file, I can see that the first title tag in the head tag contains "WebHelp". So, I guess I can somewhat fix this manually, every time I recompile. I still can not find anywhere in the skin or target that would change this. Per...

Re: Google Picks up "WebHelp" as Search... Why?
What about the file name of your target? (what is in the project organizer in the Targets folder) Or the name of your skin? The target files are all in a folder, I drag them to the final destination. They go in at the root of learn.pcc.com. The skin is named "pccfinal" and has no effect o...

Google Picks up "WebHelp" as Search... Why?
When I use Google and search for "learn.pcc.com" or for another topic in my WebHelp library, the first result is "WebHelp" "WebHelp" is not the name of my WebHelp. It's "PCC Help". I've gone through everything in my target file and elsewhere... can't figure ou...

Re: Optimizing Articles for WebHelp's Search Function
Good link, thanks! Maybe someone can help translate a little? "* Results are ranked, based on what style the search term is using, and the frequency of the term occuring. * More weight is given to Topic title, then Heading 1 to Heading 6 styles and then body tags." I'm not sure what is mea...

Optimizing Articles for WebHelp's Search Function
I use headers and index tags, but sometimes the most important article about a certain topic drops way down low on WebHelp's search results. For example, an article that happens to use the search term a LOT appears higher. Can someone summarize all the different priority tools for making sure a help...

Limit TOC Depth Picked up in PDF Output?
Hi, For PDF output, is there any way to force the Table of Contents to only go to three or four levels? I have "Use TOC depth for heading levels" checked (honestly can't imagine how you'd ever want a PDF without that checked), and it works pretty well. But I am using h1, h2, h3 inside my d...

Re: Transparency in images not working for PDF output!
Hello, Yes, it is frustrating. We've decided, for now, to just not use any kind of background for images... and making other tweaks to eliminate the need for transparencies in the PDF output. It is unfortunate, and results in output that doesn't look as snazzy. Fortunately, with CSS, we can have the...

Re: How to send someone a link to a certain topic in WebHelp?
Hey Lisa! Thanks as always for your quick reply! You're right, I did have "html", foolishly... though I had also tried the correct variation. But I was also making another mistake: the call requires a directory path to the topic file. My final URL (for anyone searching on this problem) is ...

Re: How to send someone a link to a certain topic in WebHelp?
Okay, I'm trying to set this up, finally. It turns out that setting up identifiers is optional, according to this page: http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare/Content/Output/WebHelp_Output/Connecting_WebHelp_to_Applications/Connecting_WebHelp_Developers.htm So here's what I think my link should be:...

Anyway to sort items in the Project Organizer?
Hey, Flare still lists my Project Organizer items (like my TOCs) in the order they were created. Is there any way to reorganize them? Say, alphabetically? Someone posted a while back that it just mirrored the Windows file system, and that if you opened the folder, viewed it as a list, and sorted by ...

Re: Is there a way to create a "jump" from a link in a topic dir
Just to pop in: I followed the original instructions, creating multiple skins and then crafting links that called them. Worked great! I've now got "Search" and "Index" buttons in topics where I need them, and can use the same URLs to jump from our software directly to a search or...

Re: Do Screen Captures make sense?
The best documentation is also AVAILABLE. Finished. Public. So, obviously, if doing a good job on images takes too much time, then the images are NOT improving the documentation. Because they might keep the documentation from reaching the public! :D This is one of those things that varies depending...

Re: Do Screen Captures make sense?
Great discussion. I'm chewing over the "yeah, but that would take too long" arguments against copious screenshots. At first, I wanted to reiterate: Limitations, such as time or the tools you use, should not be a factor in defining what makes up the BEST documentation for a specific circums...

Re: How to set content explorer order?
Flare doesn't ALWAYS pick up the content's folder order from Windows. Sometimes it uses creation order or some other order that I can't quite put my finger on. (I was bored one day and spent an hour experimenting. Couldn't find the pattern. I suspect a number of different things affect content order...

Re: Do Screen Captures make sense?
*grins* I disagree. Emphatically. I particularly don't like the implication (in the article) that we would avoid images because they are annoying given all the format shifting and layout hurdles we have to jump through. “This is a particular problem for those using XML-based tools, especially DITA...
