Re: How does the flare index work? I am unable to remove a topic
Conversely, it is slightly annoying that deleting an index tag from the topic does not remove it from the index itself. Leaves an 'empty' index reference, though this doesn't seem to appear in the output.

Re: Links update but cross-references do not?
That looks like a bad oversight. 'specially since cross-references were spruiked in the recent jumpstart. I've started using cross-refs instead of hyperlinks. May reconsider.

Thanks for that.
No biggie, to be honest - would just save a few minutes manual labour in Perforce.

Re: Perforce and Flare
Hi Michele - Perforce integration has been quite widely discussed here - the more discussion the better, as it should alert the MadCap developers to our issues. I've been using Flare with Perforce for about three years. Three of us share projects. We have a routine that allows us to share, even to w...

Rightio - reporting back.
Works just as Nita said. Is an improvement on previous, to my mind.

Re: Flare 7 no longer allows Paste as Table?
You mean the Paste Table option? It works for me from Excel and Word (2007); haven't tried SQL server. No I actually meant the Paste Text dialog. From which you could choose to paste as a table. Yes, it is still possible in Flare 7. The interface for this functionality has changed in Flare 7, so it...

Re: Toggler Problem
In case anyone else bumps into the same problem, I've just exchanged e-mails with MadCap support and learned that, with Windows 7, the system dpi needs to be set at 96 (normal). Here's what to do: 1. Right-click on the desktop. 2. Under Advanced Settings, click the "Make text and other items l...

Flare 7 no longer allows Paste as Table?
I commonly cut-and-paste SQL query results from MS SQL Server into Flare topics. In Flare 6 this was simple - CTRL-C the results grid in SQL Server, CTRL-V into a topic. The Paste Text dialog comes up and I select the Paste as a table option. Not so in Flare 7 - just pastes as text. Same whether pas...

Re: Perforce and Flare
Hello there cayennep(epper?) Perforce is fine, and of course it handles all the things a source control system should do - in fact I really like Perforce. What I was trying to say is that because you cannot bind Flare to Perforce, any files added or deleted in Flare must then be added or deleted in ...

Re: Conditions tags
What I wanted is to apply a condition to all files in the folder, then change the condition of a few of them. As I said, easy enough to do a bulk properties change by showing files in the Content Explorer, selecting multiple files and doing a bulk properties change. In fact, since the folder conditi...

Navigating the File List
Some more unexpected behaviour - I have just discovered the file list panel, and I like it. However, keyboard navigation is a bit screwy: if you type the first letter or two of the file you want to find, the first file matching those letters is duly found and highlighted. Great. Now I want to down-k...

Re: Conditions tags
lacastle - I'm talking about the content explorer. i-tietz - no, all the files in the folder have the same conditions. In fact, they initially had no conditions and I wanted to apply the same condition to all. It is easy enough to show the files, multi-select and apply conditions to all at the same ...

Hiding the side panels
Is there any way to temporarily hide the side panels? Content Explorer and Project Organizer etc on the left can be dragged to be wafer-thin, but the same cannot be done to the panel on the right - Styles, Link Viewer, Index Editor, etc. Is there a hidden option some where to collapse this panel whe...

Conditions tags
Is it reasonable to expect that when you set a condition tag for a folder, that tag will be applied to all files in the folder? Coz it doesn't.
I can't think of a reason to have a condition tag applied to a folder but not to the contained files.

Anyone developing help for WPF? I'd like to integrate help into the interface of an application developed in WPF and .NET. I thought believe this was DotNetHelp's strong suit and selling point, if not raison d'etre. However when I presented the SDK to the developer-in-chief he told me that it was fo...

Bugs?
Before I put in a bug notice, has anyone else seen these behaviours recently? An error message when deleting the glossary from the list in the target properties dialog. Seems like it lets you delete from the list even though it doesn't like an empty list. When entries are removed from the alias edit...

Re: Why go with Flare over Robohelp?
I'd be interested in the result of your campaign. Not that I'm thinking of defecting - a few years ago I spent the best part of three months doing a Flare vs RH7 assessment. Ended up leaving RH (had been used in the company since the year dot) and adopting Flare. Very happy with the decision.

Re: Topic IDs - Automatic Generation
I think you are referring to the Topic Title , set from Topic Properties on the Topic Properties (again!) tab. It was a while back that I imported a RH file, but I think I recall that the Topic Title was set to RoboHelp's TopicID. The closest thing to automatically assigning a Topic Title AFAIK is t...

Use screen portraits instead, that way you can add as little detail as desired and the image still does all you need it to do in the context of documentation. See here: http://techwritetips.wordpress.com/2006/02/21/best-practice-screen-shots-vs-screen-portraits/ Call me picky, but I find it hard to...
